Box Score Miami Shores, FL - The Adelphi University baseball team faced Wilmington University on the campus of Barry University Sunday evening under the lights. The team held the Wildcats to just one run until the eighth inning, eventually falling 5-2. The Panthers fall to 1-3 overall as the visiting team picked up another win, improving to 9-2-1.

Leading the offense for the Brown and Gold were Richard Mejia and Chad Houghton, who each contributed two hits in the loss. Freshman TJ Santiago got his first collegiate start, scattering six hits in 6.2 innings of work, earning one run along the way. Wildcat Josh Swirchak had three hits in the victory, including a triple that reached the right-center wall. Jake Wersinger worked through 6.0 innings as well, giving up three hits and one run.

The Panthers held the Wilcats from crossing the plate until the top of the seventh inning, but not before they were able to push a run across in the fourth. Mejia drew a walk with two outs to occupy first. In the next at-bat, Houghton drilled a ball down the right field line that would score a hustling Mejia.

It seemed as though the Green and White would get on the board in the top of the sixth once Swirchak launched a triple to right-center, but a Sportscenter-worthy layout by rookie Michael Stack and a fly-ball would leave Swirchak stranded at third.

The next inning the Panthers weren't so lucky to get out without Wilmington scoring, as Brody Tennant attempted to leg out a double but got caught at second, but still scored Frank Samluk in the process. John Donnelly came to the mound in a bases loaded situation, which the Wildcats took advantage of, scoring three to take a 4-1 lead.

Back-to-back walks in the bottom of the eighth would set up a scoring opportunity for the Panthers. With two outs and two men on, Kyle Ambury singled, picking up an RBI and scoring Rob Burns. The Brown and Gold trailed the Wildcats 5-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth and were unable to produce runs, leaving two players in scoring position.

The squad will return to action on Monday, March 10 at 3:00 p.m. at Lynn University. Live stats for the game can be found by clicking here. You can catch the live video by clicking here.
