Port Washington, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team won its fifth straight match after defeating the Greyhounds of Assumption College, 5-4, on Friday afternoon at the Port Washington Tennis Academy. After taking a 2-1 lead at the close of doubles play, a split of the singles matches was all that was required to see the Panthers to a victory. With the win, Adelphi improves to 5-4 overall and 4-0 in the Northeast-10, while Assumption falls to 5-6 and 1-4 in the conference.
The Panthers put themselves ahead in the match courtesy of identical 8-1 wins at second and third doubles by
Sander Brenner and
Uladzislau Litvinchuk and
Chiwete Njokanma and
Justin Vijungco, respectively. Just as they did in the Panthers' previous match, Njokanma, Litvinchuk and Vijungco responded to the loss of the first three singles points and recorded straight set wins in singles to secure the match for Adelphi.
