Rachel O'Brien led the #2 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team past AIC with a game-high seven points in an 18-0 victory on Tuesday, March 25 in a Northeast-10 Conference clash on Motamed Field. With the victory, the Brown and Gold remain spotless at 8-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while the Yellowjackets fall to 3-5 and 0-5 in the NE-10.
O'Brien totaled a game-high seven points, thanks to five assists and two goals, while teammate
Devan Crimi was just one point behind, with four assists and two goals. Jackie Jahelka led all scorers with four goals, while
Danielle Jaycox registered three and
Alexa Froccaro and
Rachel Aitkens picked up two tallies.Â
Nine different players caused turnovers for Adelphi in the win and
Ryley Weber was the lone Panther to post two, leading the defensive effort.
Felicia Mills and
Camille Rosellini grabbed a team-high two ground balls and Mills and Weber were tops on the team in draw controls with four and three, respectively.
Taylor Hayes was virtually untested in her eighth win of the season, picking up one save on one shot while in goal.
The Panthers jumped on AIC early, scoring eight goals in the first 10 minutes of the game. Crimi, Jahelka and Froccaro found the net twice each during the stretch. Adelphi would find the goal five more times in the next 12 minutes, taking a commanding 13-0 lead, which they would hold at the half, with 8:03 left on a
Kate Beier goal.
Adelphi added a 14th goal just 44 seconds into the second frame off the stick of Jahelka and took control of the action from there, scoring four more times and keeping AIC in their defensive half for much of the second period.
Emily Keesling was credited with the Panthers final goal of the game at 3:16, giving the Brown and Gold a 18-0 victory.
