Box Score Garden City, N.Y. - On a frigid Monday evening, the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team hosted St. Thomas Aquinas College in a non-conference contest on Motamed Field. The Panthers registered over forty shots to pick up a 19-0 victory over the Spartans. The win improves improves Adelphi to 5-0 overall as they hand STAC their first loss, falling to 4-1.
Jackie Jahelka led the way for Adelphi offensively with five goals and two assists, while both Alexa Froccarao and
Devan Crimi had six points each. Froccaro netted four goals and added two assists, while Crimi found the back of the St. Thomas net on three occasions and picked up three helpers.
Rachel O'Brien,
Danielle Jaycox and
Kate Beier also had multi-goal games with three, two and two respectively.
Defensively, Jaycox led the way with three caused turnovers, while Crimi,
Meg Brown,
Jacqueline Williams, Beier, and
Kelly Osmulski caused two turnovers each. Froccaro had a team-high four ground balls and
Ryley Weber, Willams and
Jen Graham collected three and
Felicia Mills led all players with seven draw controls.
Taylor Hayes stopped one shot on the evening, and was credited with her fifth win of the year.
Jumping out to an early lead, Jackie Jahelka netted the first goal, her fifth on the season, under four minutes into the game on an assist by
Devan Crimi. Less than two minutes later, Jahelka grabbed her second goal of the game to put the Panthers up 2-0 over St. Thomas Aquinas.
The Brown and Gold had three different Panthers find scoring opportunities within two minutes, as
Danielle Jaycox, Crimi and Frocarro each found a way past Spartans goalkeeper Kaitlyn Lonergan, making the score 5-0.
The Maroon and Gold defense was no match for the Adelphi offense, as Jahelka added another goal and
Rachel O'Brien contributed one of her own to head into the locker room with and 11-0 lead.
At the 26:00 minute mark, Jahelka swiftly passed the ball to O'Brien who scored the first goal of the second half to lead 12-0. Just seconds later a laser pass from Crimi allowed Jahelka to net her 16th goal of the seasonm with the scoreboard reading 13-0 with less than 24 minutes left.
At the 21:08 mark, Crimi registered her 21st goal on the year to hold a 15-0 margin over the Spartans. Nearly ten minutes went by before the Brown and Gold collected their sixteenth goal of the game, but seconds later would take an 18-0 lead with goals by Jaycox and Jahelka. The final goal was scored by
Rachel O'Brien to seal the deal for the Panthers with a 19-0 victory.
