Box Score Palm Beach, FL - The Adelphi University baseball team had it's first dose of Northeast-10 opponents on Thursday afternoon, facing the Yellow Jackets of American International College. After falling behind 2-1 at the conclusion of the first inning, the Panthers ultimately fell 5-3 in the non-NE-10 contest. The squad falls to 1-6 on the season as the visitors improve to 5-3.
Cliff Brantley led the offense for Adelphi, putting up three runs and accounting for one RBI in the loss.
Vincent Sharkey also accounted for two hits as teammates
Brandon Stahl,
Donato Signore and Rich Mejia each contributed a hit apiece.
Stephen Bove started on the hill for the Panthers, picking up his first loss. The senior righty scattered five hits in six innings of work, earning two runs.
The Yellow Jackets wasted no time putting runs on the board, scoring two in the top of the first inning. Cam MacDonald led off with a single to center, but was out at second as Dan Fenton reached on a fielders choice. He was later driven in by Garrett Demers along with Mike Coyne to lead 2-0.
Brantley decreased the AIC lead to one, as he led the bottom of the first off with a solo home run making the score 2-1. The Black and Gold would get one more run in their favor, to lead 3-1 before neither team would score until the seventh. AIC would tack on two more in the top of the seventh on three hits, scoring two runs with one Adelphi error, stranding one on base.
The Panthers did not go quietly. With two on and one out in the bottom of the ninth, second baseman Sharkey reached on error while Hutzel scampered home, but two groundouts would end any chance for an Adelphi rally as AIC hung on for the win.
