Box Score Miami Shores, FL – The Adelphi University baseball team was hosted by Barry University on a breezy Tuesday evening in Miami Shores, Florida. The hosts scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to pick up a win and snap their four game losing streak. Adelphi drops to 1-5 overall and the Buccaneers improve to 15-6 on the season.
Offensively, Adelphi were led by
Vincent Sharkey who collected two hits as four other Panthers registered a hit in the loss. For the Bucaneers, Adrian English scattered four hits, including two doubles and three RBI's. Starter
Vincent Caputo held the Buccaneers to three runs and the Collectively the Barry bullpen held Adelphi batters to six hits and struck out six along the way.
Scoring opportunities came for the Panthers in several innings, but the squad was unable to push any runs across the plate. After the Bucs scored in the bottom of the first, they were unable to string together any more hits until the seventh inning. The next inning featured quality defense for the visitors as
Michael Stack tagged second and made the throw to complete a double play giving the Panthers two outs.
Alex Zykoff grabbed a high fly ball in foul territory to get the Brown and Gold out of the inning.
Barry would get two more runs in the bottom of the third and would tack on seven more in the seventh inning. The fourth inning started with a Barry single to right, but
Chris Lemorocco would pick him off, clearing the basepaths. The rookie would retire the next two batters on a fly ball and a groundout to end the inning.
The top of the ninth was the Panthers last chance to make anything happen as two of the first three batters got on.
Nick Zito reached on a throwing error, advancing to second.
Brandon Stahl pinch hit for
John Campbell, dropping a single in behind the shortstop. Unfortunately the next two batters would head back to the dugout without any runs produced.
The squad will take a day to regroup and face Northeast-10 opponents for the remainder of their spring training trip. Adlephi will play American International College on Thursday, March 13 and Friday, March 14 and Assumption College on Saturday, March 15 to conclude the trip.
