#2 Women's Lacrosse Handles Scare from #15 Lindenwood, 13-11

The Panthers trailed 10-8, but scored five of the last six goals to pick up the win.

St. Charles, MO - The second ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team traveled to St. Charles, Missouri on Saturday, March 1 for their first top-15 test of the season against #15 Lindenwood and passed. The Panthers trailed 10-8 with 14 minutes left in the second half, but ripped off five straight goals to pick up a 13-11. The Brown and Gold remain unbeaten at 2-0 overall, with the win, while Lindenwood falls to 2-1.

Alexa Froccaro and Devan Crimi paced the offense, exploding for a combined 11 goals and one assist. Froccaro had a dominate six goals and one assist, while Crimi had an efficient five goals on eight shots. Jackie Jahelka had a second consecutive strong game, scoring two goals and adding one assist, while Rachel O'Brien chipped in two helpers.

Taylor Hayes was challenged in goal, making five stops to collect her second win of the season, while Lauren Janelli led the defense with three caused turnovers. Ryley Weber and Crimi also played well defensively, caused two turnovers each and five Panthers picked up three ground balls each, including Janelli, Weber, Froccaro and Hayes.

Adelphi stormed out to an early lead, scoring three goals in the first 10 minutes, while holding the Lions scoreless. However, Lindenwood and the Panthers would trade two goals, leaving the Brown and Gold out front, 5-2 with 14:10 on the clock. Unfortunately, the Lions put together a three goal run in the final 12 minutes of the first half to push the game to a 5-5 tie as time expired in the first frame, 5-5.

The Panthers came out of the locker room on fire for the second straight half, scoring two goals in the first 6:12. But, the host would score five of the next six goals, pushing out to a 10-8 lead with 13:58 left in the contest and putting Adelphi's back against the wall. However, the Brown and Gold responded in a resounding way, closing the game with five of the final six goals, including three from Froccaro to escape Missouri with a 13-11 victory.

Adelphi held a narrow edge in shots, 32-29, won the turn over battle, 17-19 and had more ground balls, 23-20, while draw controls were dead even at 13 apiece.

Coach's Comments:
"We battled through adversity today and we became a better team," Head Coach Rob Grella stated. "Although we didn't play our best, we got the job done against a very good team."

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, March 8 when they return to the road, traveling to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to take on Philadelphia University at 12:00 pm.
