Bronx, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team returned to action after nearly a month off on Sunday, contesting their final match of the fall season against the Division I Rams of Fordham University.
Justin Vijungco managed to claim victory for Adelphi at No. 5 singles, but the Rams claimed the doubles point and the other singles matches in straight sets to record a 5-1 victory.
Fordham (2-1) picked up the doubles point, as the match was played by Divison I rules, behind wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Uladzislau Litvinchuk and
Chiwete Njokanma battled hard in the second spot, but ultimately fell, 8-6.
In singles, the Rams claimed straight set wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles to claim the match win. Vijungco was the lone bright spot for the Panthers (2-1), as he rallied for victory after losing the first set. After being handed a bagel set by Fordham's Joey Brander, Vijungco delt Brander a bagel of his own before claiming the match in a 10-7 match tiebreak. Njokanma also split sets with J.J. Tauil at No. 3 singles before the match was called.
