Adelphi faced six different teams that rank in the top 20 in the NCAA

Reading, PA - The Adelphi University women's bowling team traveled to Reading, PA this past weekend to compete against a talented field of 26 teams from across the country. At the conclusion of the three-day event the team landed in the top 20, placing 17th overall.

Day One
The Brown and Gold started the day with back-to-back wins ina 767-588 defeat of Coppin State University and a 688-659 victory over the Bears of Morgan State University. Unable to stay afloat in the next match, Adelphi faced an avalanche of pins as the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater rolled out a 872-683 pin effort, falling by 189 pins. The Lady Jacks of Stephen F. Austin completed a 796-707 effort to claim the fourth match of the day by 89 pins. The Aggies of North Carolina A&T trailed the Panthers going into game four but fired seven consecutive strikes to upend the Panthers by 41 pins, 803-762. In the final match of the day, the Crusaders of Valpariso University handed the Panthers their final blow of the day by 111 pins, 809-698. Going into day two, the Panthers finished 2-4 and in fourteenth place overall.

Day Two
The Panthers had a split day capturing three wins on day two. Adelphi started the day with an 81 pin loss to Delaware State University, 921-840 despite a solid 186-pin effort by Jessica Lutz. The squad from Salem International University saw the Panthers roll out a 237 pin win, 906-669 as Jackie Castelli (225), Laura Zaugg (200), and Kathryn Rivera (184) lead the way.

The Spartans of Norfolk State University vanquished the Panthers by 60 pins, 952-892 even though Zaugg (247) shined for the Brown and Gold. The fourth match of the day featured the Commodores of Vanderbilt University, who struck early and often, completing a 161p-pin win 979-818 as Michele Fitzpatrick (191) stayed steady.

The Panthers then returned to the win column defeating the Wildcats of Bethune Cookman University by 61 pins, 927-866 on strong efforts by Zaugg (208) and Leanne Reed (181). The final win of the day came at the expense of the Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University by 68 pins. 857-789. The Panthers finished the day at 3-3 and stood at 5-7 on the weekend.

Day Three
The Panthers completed the final day of Kutztown University Invitational with a 2-1 record. The day began with the Brown and Gold falling 4-2 to the Morgan State University Bears. The squad then dispatched the Lady Eagles of NC Central University 4-1. The Panthers claimed the first three games of the match against the Delaware State Hornets, then dropped games four and five before wrapping up the victory 4-2.

The Panthers finished 17th overall on a 7-8 weekend. The squad is now 48-40 on the season and return to action on February 7 at the Capital Classic hosted by Delaware State University in Dover, DE
