Laurel, MD -
The Adelphi University women's bowling team rolled to a third place finish at the Frederick Underwood Lady Bulldogs Classic this weekend, hosted by Bowie State University. After sweeping the competition on the first day, the Brown and Gold have improved to a 41-32 overall record.

Day 2

The Panthers moved up to the second place slot on the strength of a 4-1 day in team play on day two of the tournament. Adelphi started the day with the most one sided victory in program history as it handed Livingstone University a astounding 547-pin defeat 1072-525. The route was powered by Jessica Lutz (255), Kathryn Rivera (239), Michele Fitzpatrick (216), Holly Zink (206) and Colleen O' Neill (162).

Against Fairleigh Dickinson University, AU fell short by 56-pins, 1052-996 despite solid efforts by Laura Zaugg (229) and Kathryn Rivera (215). The Panthers then spent the rest of the day with winning ways, dropping Hampton University by 182 pins 866-684 as Rivera (195) and Zink (190) stayed the course.

The Bears of Morgan State University stayed close throughout the match but could not hold off a strong Panther finish in the 43-pin win 885-842 as Jackie Castelli (227) led the way. The Braves of Chowan University fell by 311-pins in a 857-546 Panther victory. Michele Fitzpatrick (208) revived the squad and helped lift the Panthers to second place day two finish passing St. Francis Brooklyn in the final frame.

Day 3

The Panthers started the day with the number one seeded FDU in the best of seven step ladder finals. The squad took game one one but couldn't hold off the Knights in games 3-4. Adelphi evened the match at two games before FDU rolled off a 243 effort.

The ladies then rolled off their own 237 pin gem to even the match and force a game seven. In game seven two critical open frame resulted in a narrow 12 pin loss 226-214 despite the Panthers finishing the match with six consecutive strikes.

The Terriers of St.Francis Brooklyn were next up with an opportunity for the Panthers to return to the championship match with a win. The match was even through four games but three open frames in game five in a 206-149 loss shifted the momentum and the squad fell in six games.

The final match of the tournament saw the Brown and Gold face the Spartans of Norfolk State University. Adelphi let game one slip out of their hands by 2 pins 191-189 and then rolled off four straight wins to capture the match 4-1. The victory allowed the squad to finish third and complete a 10-3 weekend. The Panthers now stand at 41-32 on the season and return to action on
Friday, January 24 at the Kutztown Invitational in Reading, Pennsylvania.
