New York, N.Y. – On Friday evening, January 17, the men's and women's track and field teams competed at the University of Albany Great Dane Classic at the Armory. The Panthers posted impressive times that included two school records among a field that featured runners and teams from across all three NCAA divisions.
Highlighting the meet was senior distance runner
Elizabeth Eickelberg who broke her own school record in the mile. Here time of 5:07.62 was over a full second faster than her mark previously set last year and earned her a sixth place finish in the heat. She was also the first division II runner to cross the line in the event. Teammate
Larissa Melendez turned in a time of 5:32.97 which was good enough for a 21
st place finish and a season best.
Angela Mongitore recorded her second sub 57 clocking in the 400m dash of the season as she traversed the two-lap race in 56.96 seconds. Her time was good enough to win her heat and place ninth overall out of a field of nearly 50 competitors.
In the 60H,
Mary Camarano nearly matched her performance from a week ago when she turned in a time of 9.26 in the preliminary rounds, and then a 9.28 in the finals which placed her 11
th overall.
The women's 4x400 team comprised of
Cassandra Jean, Mongitore, Camarano and
Nicole Elarde combined to place 20
th with a time of 4:08.89.
In the sprints on the men's side, junior
David Lewis and freshman
Austin Drescher posted the Panther's top two times in the 200m dash of the season. Lewis finished in 45
th overall and finished just three tenths and one place ahead of Drescher with times of 22.92 and 22.95 respectively.
Luke Pascale also posted the fastest time of the year for the Brown and Gold in the 400m dash with his performance of 50.92.
Ryan Healy represented the Panthers well in the 1000m run. He broke a two-year old school record with his time of 2:28.02 and earning fifth place overall in the process. The previous record was set by teammate
David DeSalvo in 2012 with a marek of 2:29.62.
Chris Reilly was the first to dip under the two minute barrier after clocking in at 1:59.80 which was good enough for 19
th place. Teammate
Daniel Morley was just a stride behind in 21
st with his time of 2:00.49.
Connor Dolan recorded Adelphi's fastest mile time of the meet after breaking the tape in 4:32.97.

The Panthers get back to action on Friday and Saturday, January 24 and 25 when they head up to Boston, MA to compete in the John Thomas Harrier Invitational held at Boston University.
