Philadelphia, PA – The Adelphi University men's tennis team traveled to the campus of Chestnut Hill College to compete in the ITA East Regional Championship this past weekend. The tournament featured two flights, A and B, for singles and doubles play.
The squad was led by junior Ryan Villarruel, who reached the quarterfinals in singles B action.
In hist opening match, Villarruel defeated Julian Katzev from the University of the Sciences by an 8-4 score, and followed that up with a victory against John Lemar from Daemen. Villarruel fell to Nicolas Jubera from NYIT in the quarterfinals, 8-2.
In addition, he also partnered Justin Vijungco in doubles B play. Vijungco, to his credit, picked up an 8-4 win in singles B play against Andrew Waddington from Bentley. He was defeated in a tough tiebreak set in his second match, 9-8(7).
Both Sander Brenner and Uladzislau Litvinchuk competed in singles A play for the Panthers, but were unable to win a match. Brenner received a bye into the round of 32, but fell in straight sets to Nicolas Heintz from NYIT. Litvinchuk gave Simon Andersson from the University of the District of Columbia a tough match before falling, 4-6, 7-5 10-7.
Brenner and Litvinchuck did score a win in doubles A play, as they teamed up to defeat Ayman Barakat and Nail Rachidi from Philadelphia, 8-2.
