Owings Mills, MD – Earlier this afternoon, the women's lacrosse team took on the LIU-Post Pioneers in the NCAA Final Four on the campus of Stevenson University. Despite holding a one-goal advantage in the latter stages of the contest, the Panthers dropped a heart breaker as the Pioneers notched two quick scores in the final seconds of the game to put an end to the Brown and Gold's season by a score of 7-6. Adelphi posted an 18-3 overall record for the 2013 campaign.

Five players registered points for Adelphi, led by freshman Rachel O'Brien's two goals. Danielle Jaycox, Devan Crimi, Alexa Froccaro and Sara Sangiorgio rounded out the scoring contingent as each of them tallied one goal.

In goal, Jordann Dempsey logged 36:26 minutes in net, allowed five goals and made six stops while teammate Taylor Hayes closed the final 23:34, gave up just two goals and made four saves in the process.

For the Pioneers, Brie-Claire Drost and Jackie Sileo each recorded two goals apiece. Ashley Olen, Katie Rotan and Jenna Pierro added to the team's scoring efforts with one goal each. Dominique Mosca logged all 60 minutes in the game, gave up six goals and made 13 saves.

Just 61 seconds into the game, O'Brien found the back of the cage on an unassisted attempt to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead in the early stages of the contest. However, Post responded with two unanswered as Drost leveled the playing field at the 26:29 mark on an unassisted shot while Sileo capitalized on a free position attempt for the 2-1 lead.

After nearly 18 minutes of scoreless action, it was Jaycox who broke the silence when she beat Mosca to make it a 2-2 affair with less than six minutes left to play. Drost gave Post the 3-2 advantage heading into the half after she notched her second goal of the contest on a feed from Losco.

The Pioneers ripped off two more goals to open up the second frame, courtesy of the efforts of Olen and Rotan. Down 5-3, Adelphi kept at it, continued to fight and it paid off, resulting in four consecutive scores. Crimi cut from the right and found the bottom left hand side of the net to cut the deficit to 5-3. Froccaro followed it up with a free position goal less than a minute later to make it 5-4.

At the 12:49 mark, O'Brien struck once again on an unassisted play to even the slate at 5-5. With time winding down and the score locked, it was Sangiorgio who gave the Panthers the go ahead goal after beating Mosca on a free position attempt.

Adelphi gained possession off the ensuing draw and attempted to run the clock out. However, with under two minutes remaining, Jaycox was called for a cradle in the sphere after attempting to dodge the surrounding Pioneer defenders. The turnover led to a quick Pierro goal at the 1:25 mark which tied the game at 6-6. In a last second attempt, Post took control off the draw, charged down field and managed to find the back of the net with 5.3 seconds left to put an end to the Panther's season.

Statistically, both teams were evenly matched. Adelphi was out-shot 24-20, and was at an 8-7 disadvantage on draw controls, but had more clears (14-13), less turnovers (7-9), fouls (23-25) and converted on more free position shots (3-7 compared to Post's 1-4). Ground balls were even at 10.
