Bronxville, N.Y. – The Adelphi University baseball team surrendered a 3-2 decision to Concordia College in non-league action on Friday. The Panthers, looking to shake a four-game losing streak, drop to 18-21-1 overall and the Clippers improve to 21-18-1 on the season.

The Panthers held a 2-0 lead through the seventh inning stretch but the hosts answered with three runs in the home half to even the season series at a game apiece. Starting pitcher Mike Barone secured the win for Concordia in seven innings of work, and Matt Abramowitz was saddled with the loss in 1.2 innings of relief for the Panthers.

For Adelphi, Nick Zito batted 2-4, while Ray Triano ripped an RBI single and Richard Mejia drew a bases-loaded walk to account for the Panthers' two runs. Vincent Sharkey went 1-3 with a run scored and a walk, and starting pitcher Jeff Andersen threw four shutout innings with three hits and two strikeouts in the no decision.

Ryan Roman paced the Concordia lineup with a 2-3 performance that included a double, an RBI, a run scored and three stolen bases. Joe Gallub clubbed an RBI double, while Luis Gonzalez singled and drew a free pass.

The Panthers jumped ahead in the third, beginning with Sharkey's leadoff walk. With two down, Brandon Stahl singled Sharkey to second and a walk loaded the bases. Mejia then watched four balls go by to force in the game's first run and give Adelphi a 1-0 lead. Triano widened the gap to 2-0 the following inning, knocking a single through the left side with one out.

Andersen and reliever Mike Cranston combined to shut down the Clippers through six innings, but the hosts used three hits and three passed balls to score three runs and take the lead. Roman delivered an RBI single with runners on the corners and stole second, allowing the runner to score from third for the tying run. A passed ball shifted Roman to third and Gallub doubled down the left field line to plate what proved to be the winning run.

Adelphi put two runners on with a pair of two-out walks in the ninth, but Salvatore Minichino coaxed a pop-up in foul territory to earn the save and end the contest.

The Panthers return home tomorrow for a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division doubleheader against The College of Saint Rose. The first pitch of the three-game weekend series is scheduled for 12 p.m.
