Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team played host to AIC in a double header on Saturday, April 20 on Janet L. Ficke FIeld. The Panthers shut out the Yellowjackets, 3-0 in game one and then out hit AIC to the tune of a 5-2 win in game two. With the sweep Adelphi improves to 34-10 overall and 15-2 in the Southwest Division.

Game One
The first three and a half innings of game one were scoreless, but an Amy Caird triple in the bottom of the fourth added a one to the scoreboard, scoring Courtney Sullivan, who pinch ran for Meghan Heiser. The Panthers added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth when they took advantage of back to back passed balls from AIC to push the margin to 3-0.

That was more then enough for the Panther pitching staff, as Devon Kelly went four innings for her 16th win, striking out two and walking two and Laurin Watts tossed three innings of relief, striking out two and walking one to collect her third save of the year.  At the plate both Elizabeth Lindner and Emily Dorko had two hits, with Lindner adding a run.

Game Two
Adelphi scored early in the second game, getting a run in the bottom of the first on a Katie Andrews sacrifice fly that scored Dorko, 1-0. However, AIC answered in the bottom of the inning, loading the bases with no outs, but Watts worked out of the jam giving up just one run on a fielder's choice, 1-1.

The Panther offense would come alive in the fourth, scoring four runs, the first on a Dorko single that scored Lindner. That hit also tied Dorko with Dely Francisco as the Panthers single season hit leader with 84, a record that was set in 2008. Heather Salerno would drive in the third and fourth runs of the game for Adelphi with a triple to right center and then score on a Yellowjacket wild pitch, 5-1.

The combination of Watts and Kelly would shut down AIC the rest of the way, giving up just one more Yellowjacket run on an error to push Adelphi to a 5-2 win. Watts picked up her 16th win of the season, throwing five innings and striking out four, while Kelly came on for two innings of relief sitting down one and walking one.

Dorko, Andrews and Lindner led the offense with two hits each, as Dorko scored twice and drove in a run and Andrews drove in a run and Lindner crossed home. Salerno and Caird accounted for Adelphi's other two hits in the win.

The Panthers return to action on Sunday, April 21 when they travel to Oakdale, New York for a doubleheader with Long Island rival Dowling College.
