Softball Shuts Out AIC, 8-0

Box Score Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team played host to Northeast-10 Conference American International College on Friday, April 19 on Janet L. Ficke Field. Adelphi scored runs in bunches, picking up a 8-0 win over the Yellowjackets. With the win the Panthers improve to 32-10 overall and 13-2 in the Southwest Division, while AIC falls to 10-22 and 4-10 in division. 

The Panthers threatened in the bottom of the first, loading the bases with no outs, but AIC managed to end the inning unscathed. The Brown and Gold would load the bases again in the bottom of the second, but broke through this time when a Victoria Wink single down the left field line scored, Emily Dorko and Elizabeth Lindner, putting Adelphi up 2-0. That hit was followed by a Katie Andrews single that pushed the Panther margin to 3-0.

A two out single to center from Andrews in the bottom of the fourth scored Dorko and  gave the Panthers a fourth run, while a Wink single in the fifth, scored Heather Salerno and Dorko to push the Yellowjacket hole to six runs. The Brown and Gold would end the game an inning later when Amy Caird smacked a single to center that brought home Kayla Rieger and Jeanine Leo, to push the score to 8-0, ending the game and giving Adelphi the win.

Devon Kelly tossed the first four innings, picking up her 15th win of the season, while striking out three and walking one. Laurin Watts pitched two innings, striking out two, walking one and giving up no runs. Wink was 3-4 with four rbi in the win, while Dorko went 3-4 with three runs. Andrews was also 3-4, adding two rbi, while Leo, Lindner and Caird picked up two hits each.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, April 20 when they complete their three game set with AIC on Janet L. Ficke Field.
