Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team secured the fifth seed in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament with a 5-4 win against American International College in their regular season finale on Saturday. The Panthers improve to 12-7 overall and 6-3 in the NE-10 while the Yellow Jackets, who will be the tournament's sixth seed, fall to 6-5 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
The Panthers held a narrow 2-1 lead following doubles play.
Ryan White and
Boris Tiberkov recorded an 8-4 victory at second flight doubles for their first win together, while
Alan Chocron and
Chiwete Njokanma blanked their opponents at third doubles.
The Yellow Jackets took each of the top three singles matches as Cass Schwab bested
Andreas Hammar at the spot spot, and Kenzo Kauffmann defeated
Sander Brenner at third singles. Thijs Bik was leading
Bryan Kallenberg 2-0 when Kallenberg was forced to retire. Nonetheless, Chocron, Tiberkov and Njokanma all won their matches in straight sets to secure the Brown and Gold's victory.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, April 17 when they travel to #4 Stonehill College for the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. The Panthers dropped a close 5-4 decision to the Skyhawks in the regular season on March 22. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
