Softball Pounces on Pace, 12-4 and 7-2

The Panthers collected more then 20 hits on the day.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Pleasantville, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team traveled to Pleasantville, New York on Wednesday, March 27 to face off against Pace University in a Northeast-10 Conference double header. The Panthers slugged their way past Pace, taking home victories of 12-4 and 7-1 to push their unbeaten streak to eight games, improving to 17-6 overall and 10-0 in conference, while rising to 3-0 in division. With the losses Pace drops to 7-6 overall and 0-3 in division.

Game One
Pace came ready to swing, getting the scoring started in the bottom of the first with three runs, including two on a home run over the wall in center, 3-0. Adelphi responded with seven runs in the top of the second, the first coming courtesy of a Meghan Heiser single that plate Katie Andrews, who had kicked off the inning with a double. Elizabeth Lindner would put Adelphi out front with one swing, unleashing a swing that sent the ball clear of the center field the wall and plated three runs, scoring Heister and Jaclyn Binstock along with herself, 4-3 Adelphi.

The inning was capped by Victoria Wink, who also managed to strike a ball that found it's way over the wall in center, adding three more runs to the board, 7-3 Adelphi. The Setters would get one run back in the bottom of the inning, but another Lindner three run slam put the Panthers comfortably in control 10-4 after three inning of play.

Adelphi would tack on two more runs in the top of the fourth to secure a 12-4 five inning victory in the first game for Devon Kelly. Kelly threw four innings struck out two walked two and gave up eight hits, while collecting her sixth win of the season and Laurin Watts tossed a scoreless inning of relief striking out two.

Lindner was the star at the plate, going 2-3 with two runs, six rbi and two home runs, while Wink was 3-4 with two runs scored and three rbi, including a home run. In addition, Andrews was 2-4 with a run scored and Heiser was 2-3 with a run scored and two rbi.

Game Two
Adelphi struck first in game two, scoring two runs on two hits in the top of the second. Jeanine Leo brought Binstock around for the first run on a ground rule double, while a Lindner one out single to center brought Leo across home plate, 2-0 Panther.

The Brown and Gold added three runs to their total in the top of the third on a Jordan Catalano base clearing double to center that plated, Leo, Binstock and Wink, 5-0 Adelphi. The Setters put one run on the board in the bottom of the third, leading off with a home run, but got no closer.

Two more runs were added to the Adelphi side of the score board in the top of the fourth, the first coming on an Andrews single that gave Emily Dorko the opportunity to cross home and then a Leo single to left scored Wink, pushing the Adelphi cushion to six runs, 7-1.

That was more then enough run support for Andrews, who tossed a complete game five hitter, striking out two and walking one to collect her first win of the season. Dorko, Andrews Leo, Lindner and Catalano each picked up two hits in the victory with Andrews and Lindner adding one rbi, while Leo posted two and Catalano three.

Adelphi returns to action on Friday, March 29 when they play host to LeMoyne College in a single game on Janet L. Ficke Field at 3:00 pm.
