Garden City, N.Y. – The men's tennis team took on the Purple Knights of St. Michael's College earlier this afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. After going up 2-1 after doubles, the Panthers swept the singles competition to come away with the 8-1 victory. With the win, Adelphi advances to 7-5, 3-1 NE-10 while St. Michael's drops to 2-4, 1-3 NE-10.
Andreas Hammar and
Alan Chocron made quick work of Eric Parziale and Steve Thomson at first doubles, 9-0 and then Boris tiberkov and
Chiwete Njokanma defeated sam Laves and Kenny Vassallo 8-2 in third doubles to give Adelphi two victories.
Bryan Kallenberg and
Sander Brenner fell in a tight 9-7 matchup against Nick Bosco and Chris Moskal at second doubles to set the score at 2-1 heading into the singles competition.
The Panthers then swept first through sixth singles without dropping a single set. Kallenberg was pushed far in the first set in the second slot, but prevailed 7-5 and came back strong in the second, 6-0. Njokanma surrendered four games but it's as close as any St. Michael's player would get as they were unable to manage any closer than 6-1 in the remaining matches.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow, March 24, when they host St. Anselm at noon.
