Easton, Mass. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team battled down to the wire at Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Friday, falling 5-4 after the deciding singles match ended in favor of the Skyhawks. The Panthers slip to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in NE-10 play, while Stonehill is now 11-4 overall and 4-1 in league competition.
After falling behind 3-0 in doubles action, the Panthers made a valiant comeback by winning four of the top five singles matches to leave the contest up to the deciding No. 6 singles tilt.
Chiwete Njokanma took on Brett Armstrong and won the first set, 6-3, but Armstrong countered with a 6-1 effort in set two. Njokanma trailed his opponent 7-6 to force the tie-breaker, but Armstrong ultimately lifted the Skyhawks to victory with a 7-1 pace in extra play.
Adelphi is back in action tomorrow against Saint Michael's College for an NE-10 match at home at 12 p.m.
