New Haven, CT – Earlier this evening, the #4 women's lacrosse team visited the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. After rattling off 11 unanswered goals in the first, the Panthers tacked on five more in the second to secure the 16-2 victory. With the win, Adelphi advances to 6-0, 3-0 NE-10 while Southern Connecticut falls to 0-3, 0-2 NE-10.
Alexa Froccaro led the attack for the stickwomen, notching two career highs in points (6) and assists (3) while tacking on three goals as well.
Sara Sangiorgio poured in four goals while dishing out one assist while
Devan Crimi added three scores of her own. Freshman
Rachel O'Brien continued her strong rookie campaign with a two goal, two assist performance on the night while teammate
Melyssa Mathewson tallied four points on three assists and one goal. Rounding out the scoring for the Panthers was
Laura Hedges,
Danielle Jaycox and
Lauren Janelli, each of whom scored one goal. In cage,
Jordann Dempsey picked up the win as she saw the first 30 minutes of action and did not allow a single goal.
Sarah Cebry and Sarah Muise each tallied one goal for the Owls.
The Panthers registered 33 shots, 20 of which came in the first while holding the hosts to just six, all of which came in the second. Adelphi forced 20 turnovers while committing just 11 of their own and were 8-10 on clear attempts while Southern cleared just 5-16.
O'Brien put in the game's first goal on an unassisted play just 46 seconds in from the opening draw with Sangiorgio following with the first of her four goals at the 27:49 mark. The Panthers then shot off seven goals within five minutes of each other to make it a 9-0 affair. Crimi and Froccaro added two more before halftime to make it an 11-goal game.
Sangiorgio accounted for three of Adelphi's five goals in the second; opening play with back to back scores. Cebry finally put the Owls on the board, but Sangiorgio responded once again to keep the gap at 13. Crimi and Hedges bookmarked a Muise goal which capped the 16-2 rout.
The Panthers are back in action on Saturday, March 23 when they head up to Rindge, New Hampshire to take on the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University at 2pm.
