Women's Basketball Sets Back SCSU in NE-10 Opener, 92-66

Three players from the Brown and Gold had points in double digits, helping to earn their first conference win.

New Haven, CT - The Adelphi University women's basketball team picked up their first Northeast-10 Conference win as they traveled to Southern Connecticut State University to take on the Owls. With the 92-66 victory, the Panthers improve to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the NE-10, as SCSU drops to 2-2 and 0-1 in conference play.

Three Panthers had points in double-digits, as Sade Jackson and Kelly Mannix both collected 18 points and freshman Calli Balfour chipped in 16 of her own. Jackson completed her first double-double of the season, grabbing 12 assists in the victory.

Adelphi would capitalize on their first lead of the game just nine minutes in, as a three-pointer by Tara Flynn would push the Panthers over the Owls, 18-17. The Blue and White wouldn't give in as the rest of the half remained close, but the Brown and Gold would lead 40-35 going into the half.

Coming out of the locker room, the Panthers would jump out to a 10 point lead, 47-37, including two layups by Balfour. Adelphi would reach it's largest lead in the game, with just under two minutes remaining in the second half, on a three-pointer by Mannix. The junior guard went 4-6 from beyond the arc, accounting for 12 of her 18 points.

Coach's Thoughts on the Game

"It was a great team win; everyone played a part in tonight's victory, " said Head Coach Heather Jacobs. "I was extremely proud of how we responded and adjusted in the second half and our bench was exceptional. We will look to improve our overall team defense as we prepare for our next conference game."

The women's team returns to action on Saturday, November 23 in a conference match-up between the Yellow Jackets of American International College at 1:30 pm.
