Millsboro, DE - The Adelphi University women's bowling team finished this past weekend at the University of Maryland Eastern Shores Hawk Classic in eleventh place out of sixteen teams, improving their overall record to 28-24. After picking up three wins in Baker play on day one, the Panthers dropped three games on day two and defeated St. Francis College twice on day three.
Day Two
The day started with the squad falling by 92 pins to NEC rivals Sacred Heart University 962-870, despite fine efforts by
Holly Zink (207) and
Erica Schneider (192).
The Panther spare-making remained problematic as they fell by 96 pins to Norfolk State University, 991-895. Along the way, Zink (225) and Schneider (190) remained steady.
Adelphi's fortune turned briefly as they held off Monmouth University Hawks in a 19-pin victory 877-858, with a 198-pin effort by freshman
Laura Zaugg.
In their final match of the day, the Brown and Gold stayed even with the 3-time NCAA Champion Hawks of UMES but failed late in the match despite a 202 effort by
Kathryn Rivera, falling by 45 pins, 898-853.
"Our spare shooting must improve to be competitive at our level of competition" stated Head Coach
Robert Cincotta.
Day Three
Adelphi entered the step ladder finals in 11th place at the UMES Hawk Classic in Millsboro, DE and drew NEC rivals St. Francis Brooklyn for their first match. The Terriers and Panthers have had a fierce rivalry the past eight years and Sunday's match proved no different.
The Brown and Gold fell down three games to none in the best of seven matches and rallied back to win the next four games to clinch the 4-3 victory.
The squad then fell 4-2 to the Blackbirds of LIU despite fighting back from a 2-0 deficit and extending the match to six games.
The final match of the day repeated the Panther-Terrier rivalry with Adelphi closing out the day with a 4-2 victory.
With the win the Panthers stand at 28-24 on the season and return to action at the NEC 2 event in Fairfield, CT on
Dec. 7.
