2013 Kutztown Invitational Results
Reading, Pa. - The Adelphi University women's bowling team bounced back from a rough start to win nine of its last 10 matches, including a perfect 6-0 record on Saturday, to finish 12th overall at the Kutztown University Invitational tournament this weekend. The team is now 43-17 on the season and returns to action at the Northeast Conference #2 event in Bradley Beach, N.J., on Saturday.

The Panthers struggled and went 1-5 in Baker play on the first day off the KU Invite. They started well enough, shooting a respectable 807 in match one versus University of Maryland Eastern Shore, but eventually fell by 66 pins. The Wildcats of Bethune Cookman led throughout the match and the Panthers could not muster a rally falling by 39 pins, 767-728. Adelphi then face the Commodores of Vanderbilt University, and despite a 208 effort by the Panthers in game two, the Commodores handed the squad a 34 pin loss, 783-749. The Lady Jacks of Stephen F. Austin fired on all cylinders, dispatching the Panthers by 125, 775-650. The Spartans of Norfolk State capitalized on poor Adelphi spare shooting and took a close 24 pin victory, 741-717. The final match of the day saw the Panthers return to the win column with a nail-biting eight pin win, 737-729. The Panthers finished the day in 17th place in the field of 28 teams.

The Panthers completed a perfect 6-0 day in team play on Saturday, vaulting from 17th to 10th place.
Holly Zink (235),
Kathryn Rivera (203), and
Erica Schneider (196) sparked a 36 pin victory over the Crusaders of Valpariso University in the 968-932 battle. The Panthers then dispatched the Bison of Howard University by 235 pins as
Kristina Porter (242),
Samantha Morlack (236) and Schneider (210) exploded for a 1,039-804 win. Match three saw the Eagles of North Carolina Central University stay close throughout the match before falling by 44 pins, 881-837. The thriller of the day was match four versus Delaware State. Morlack (244) unleashed seven straight strikes to lift the Panthers to victory by 14 pins, 984-970. Along the way, good games were contributed by all the Adelphi bowlers, including a 213 gem by Rivera. The Morgan State squad could not match the efforts of Zink (201), Porter (200), Morlack (196) and Schneider (194) in the 185 pin victory, 956-771. The final match of the day saw the Southern University ladies take an early lead but Morlack (212) rallied back to close the deal by 62 pins, 878-816.

The final day of action began against NEC rivals St. Francis College. Over the years the two foes have had many memorable matches and Sunday was no exception as Adelphi faced St. Francis twice in dramatic seven game roll offs. In match one, the Panthers took games one, four and six, setting up a deciding game seven. The Panthers led early but the Terriers rallied to claim the final game, 242-198. The squad then faced Valpariso University. The Panthers took game two but trailed three games to one, facing elimination in game five. The ladies were undaunted and sweptp the remaining games 193-167, 189-160 and 214-153 to claim the win in seven games. Match three saw the Panthers jump out to a 3-1 lead. The Terriers then took games five and six to set up a dramatic finish to the match. Adelphi fired on all cylinders with a 224 effort to take the game by 76 pins. The Panthers completed the day 2-1 and the tournament at 9-6.
