Swimming Closes Out Regular Season With Loss to St. Rose

Both the men and women will now head into the championship season beginning with NE-10's.

Troy, N.Y. –
On Saturday, January 19, the men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled upstate for a meet against Northeast-10 opponent, St. Rose which was held on the campus of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Golden Knights doubled up the Panthers and took the team titles on both the men's and women's side.
 
On the men's side, the Panthers earned five runner up finishes and had two event champions while the women had three second place finishes and two take home top honors.
 
Chad Ankers landed three runner up finishes on the evening. He began with the 200 yard freestyle relay in which he turned in a time of 1:52.40 and then came back with a 57.37 performance in the 100 yard butterfly.  He capped his night with his third and final second place finish in the 100 yard backstroke where he turned in a time of 1:03.24.
 
Teammate Michael Mayer had a solid outing as well, topping the field in the 200 yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:03.00. He then swam to a time of 51.69 in the 100 yard freestyle which earned him a second place showing. Zachary Mazur earned the final top podium position in his event; the 50 yard freestyle. The freshman swam to a mark of 23.02 seconds to edge out Eric Howard of St. Rose by one hundredth of a second.
 
On the women's side, Heather Miller and Gabrielle Terzano combined for two first and second place finishes. Miller took top honors in the 50 yard freestyle in 27.15 and led Ana Galesic and Rachel Garry to an Adelphi 1-2-3 sweep of the event. Galesic was right behind in 27.48 while Garry rounded out the contingent with a time of 28.08. Miller closed out her strong performance in the pool with a runner up finish in the 100 yard backstroke with a clocking of 1:08.55.
 
Terzano posted the fastest time in the 100 yard butterfly with a mark of 58.53 to earn Adelphi's second and only event winner. The junior also took home second place by way of a 2:22.81 showing in the 200 yard Individual Medley.
 
The men fell by a score of 148.5-75.5 while the women dropped the meet 133-63.
 
Adelphi swimming returns to action on Wednesday, January 30 when they take part in day one of three at the Northeast-10 Swimming and Diving Championships. The location will be announced as the event draws closer.
