East Stroudsburg, Pa. - The Adelphi University field hockey team suffered its second straight loss to begin the season, falling 6-0 at East Stroudsburg University on Whitenight Field on Saturday. The setback marks the largest margin of defeat and the most goals allowed by the Panthers since field hockey was reinstated as a varsity sport in 2008.

The Warriors struck early, notching the first goal on a shot by Jessica Lawville at the 7:21 mark in the first half. The Panthers countered with a flurry of shots on goal that saw freshman Molly Cuevas, junior Jamie Ackerman and senior Alysaa Conklin each launching attempts on net within the next three minutes, but ESU goalie Sarah Dobroskey turned away each attack.

The hosts controlled the tempo of the game for the remainder of the period, rattling off 12 shots on goal including a goal by Ally Roth before the Panthers mustered another attempt. At the end of the first 35 minutes of play, the Warriors held a 2-0 lead over Adelphi and boasted a 16-4 advantage in shots on goal.

ESU came out blazing in the second half and registered two quick scores in the first 3:03 after intermission. Lawville potted her second goal of the game followed promptly by Lauren Ventrella's first goal, putting the Warriors up 4-0. The offensive showcase continued with a goal by Alyson Becker at the 46:14 mark, prompting Adelphi Head Coach Gloria O'Connor to call a timeout to help the Panthers get back on track.

The brief pause in action allowed the visitors to gather themselves and assemble a quality possession that saw scoring chances for Cuevas, sophomore Briana Rubenstein and senior Cassie Cabral, but the Panthers still could not penetrate the Warriors' defense. ESU then regained control and held it for the final 15 minutes, extending its lead to 6-0 via a Gabrielle Seibert goal with just over two minutes to play.

For Adelphi, senior goalie Kristine Puzio made 13 saves in 43-plus minutes of play, bringing her saves total to 32 in two games. Freshman Kelly Serrao made her collegiate goalkeeping debut, recording two stops and allowing two goals in 26:31. Dobroskey stopped all five shots that came her way and helped the Warriors secure the shutout in their season opener.

Adelphi drops to 0-2 with the loss, while ESU stands at 1-0. The Panthers look to seize their first win of 2012 when they host Franklin Pierce University for a non-conference contest in Tuesday's home opener at 4 p.m.
