South Easton, MA – Earlier this afternoon, the #2 women's lacrosse team took on the #6 Skyhawks of Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup. Heading into halftime up by six, the Panthers uncorked nine unanswered goals in the second to outplay the host institution, 19-7. With the win, Adelphi advances to 9-1, 6-1 NE-10 while Stonehill moves to 9-2, 7-1 NE-10.
Erica Devito and
Devan Crimi came out with six points each and were the high point earners on the afternoon. Devito put in the Panther's second goal at the 28:08 mark and then struck again just under 13 minutes later to put Adelphi up 2-6 on a man up opportunity. She did most of the damage in the first, with two of her three goals, and all three of her assists coming in the opening 20 minutes of action. Crimi added to the Panther assault with a split of two goals and four assists over 40 minutes of playing time, scoring one goal and dishing out two assists in each half.
A combined eight goals came off the sticks of
Sara Sangiorgio and
Meg Brown; each tallying four. They both dumped in three goals apiece in the first period alone, accounting for over half of the team's scores, and then rounded it out with a goal each in the final frame. Brown's third goal sparked the 9-0 second half run while her fourth goal, coming from a free position shot, capped the run and put her team up by 13; the largest lead of the game.
Marissa Mills had a two-goal afternoon while teammate
Danielle Jaycox matched that performance with a pair of her own.
Tara Gangarossa and
Alexa Froccaro rounded out the scoring with a goal each. Jaycox kick started Adelphi in the first, beating keeper Rebecca Moore in the opening 25 seconds. Alison Staudt earned an assist on the night to cap the nine different players all earning at least one point.
Jordann Dempsey was positioned between the pipes for the entire duration of the game and made 10 saves en route to her ninth win of the season.
For the Skyhaws, Heather Sullivan provided much of the offense by putting in three goals. She put in her first one within the final two minutes of the first, and then opened the second with back to back scores within 15 seconds of each other.
Kayla Green emerged late in both halves, with each of her two goals coming in the latter stages of each frame while Mary Lee Mahoney and Samantha Lynott capped the Skyhawk scoring with a goal each.
In cage for Stonehill, Rebecca Moore logged 38:35 minutes and made six saves in the loss.
