Manchester, NH - The Adelphi University softball team traveled to Manchester, New Hampshire on Saturday, April 21 to take on Saint Anselm on the second to last day of the regular season. The Panthers and Hawks picked up one win each, by the same score of 3-1. With the split, Adelphi sits at 32-17-1 overall and 20-8 in the Northeast-10, while the Hawks are 19-27 overall and 13-17 in conference action.

Game One

Adelphi got a dominant performance on the mound from Devon Kelly, who picked up her 14th win of the season, going seven innings, striking out one, giving up just two hits and one run. The Hawks only run came in the bottom of the first on a home run, 1-0.

The Panthers responded right away, when a Jeanine Leo single to left center scored Kayla Rieger, knotting the action at one halfway through the second inning. The Adelphi offense would cool off from there, but came alive in the top of the fifth when they got back-to-back jacks from Amanda Krier and Katie Andrews, which provided a big enough cushion for Kelly, 3-1.

Both Krier and Jaclyn Binstock were 2-3, while Krier added a run and an RBI, while Emily Dorko was 2-4  at the plate.

Game Two

The second game was a scoreless tie through three and a half innings, but a Saint Anselm sacrifice fly broke the stalemate and gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Saint Anselm added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on singles, taking a 3-0 lead.

The Panthers tried to rally in the top of the sixth, when a two out Andrews single to left scored Victoria Wink, bringing Adelphi within two runs, 3-1. However, Binstock would line out, ending the threat. With three outs left to extend the game in the top of the seventh, the Panthers managed a walk, but nothing else, falling, 3-1.

Dorko was again. 2-4 at the dish, while Meghan Heiser was 2-3 and Wink, Andrews and Leo all added a hit each.

The Panthers return to action on Sunday, April 22 when they close out the regular season in Manchester, New Hampshire against Southern New Hampshire.
