Box Score
Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team won its second straight game with a 4-0 shutout of American International College in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action at William J. Bonomo Field on Friday. With the win, the Panthers improve to 17-17 overall and 6-5 in the division, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 12-20-1 on the year and 1-9-1 in the Southwest.
Panthers starting pitcher
Chris Pabisch assembled one of Adelphi's finest outings of the season, working eight innings of three-hit, shutout baseball. Pabisch carried a no-hitter into the fifth, fanned five batters and walked none in his second win of the season.
Matt Abramowitz came on in the ninth and struck out a pair to slam the door.
At the plate,
Chad Houghton led a trio of Panthers with two hits and clubbed an RBI double in the second to give Adelphi the only run it would need.
Nick Zito singled twice, drove in a run on a sacrifice fly and swiped three bases, while
Justin Farnum collected two base hits.
Anthony Zarrella knocked a single and recorded an RBI groundout, bumping his team-leading total to 33 RBI on the season.
Adelphi plated single runs in the second, fourth, sixth and eighth innings, which gave Pabisch plenty of room to work. Minus the game's leadoff batter reaching on an error, Pabisch was perfect into the fifth and retired 12 consecutive Yellow Jacket hitters. AIC's Julian Concepcion broke up the no-no with a single up the middle and was one of just four Yellow Jacket runners to reach scoring position in the game.
The Panthers are slated for an NE-10 doubleheader rematch with AIC beginning tomorrow at 12 p.m.
