Men's Tennis Drops 5-4 Heart Breaker to Stonehill in NE-10 Quarterfinals

Panthers held 4-1 lead but fell victim to Skyhawks' late rally

Andreas Hammar helped Adelphi jump out to an early lead with a pair of victories before the Panthers fell to fourth-seeded Stonehill 5-4 in the NE-10 Quarterfinals.
South Easton, Mass. - The fifth-seeded Adelphi University men's tennis team worked a 4-1 lead over fourth-seeded Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference Quarterfinals competition on Tuesday, but the Skyhawks won four consecutive singles matches to earn a 5-4 win and advance to Thursday's semifinal match at #1 Merrimack College.

The Panthers took a 2-1 lead after doubles play thanks to wins by Andreas Hammar and Richard Ferguson at the top slot and Ryan Villarruel and Bryan Kallenberg at No. 2 doubles. Hammar and Chiwete Njokanma then prevailed at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, to give Adelphi a 4-1 advantage with four remaining singles matches. The Skyhawks then turned things around when they need to most, rattling off four consecutive victories to snatch the win and eliminate the Panthers from the postseason.

In the team's first season under Head Coach Lauren Leo, Adelphi finishes the year 9-12 overall and posted a 7-4 mark in the NE-10.
