Garden City, N.Y. - Pink bats will be the tool of choice for the Adelphi University baseball team during Sunday's Think Pink game, during which the Panthers will don pink gear to raise breast cancer awareness in support of the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer hotline.
Players from both Adelphi and visiting American International College will use pink bats and wear pink wristbands and shoelaces to show their support for the noble cause, and Adelphi staff will be selling t-shirts, hats, wristbands and 50-50 raffle tickets. All proceeds will be donated to the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer hotline.
Inspired by Adelphi's wildly successful Think Pink campaign this past October, Head Coach
Dom Scala jumped at the chance for the baseball program to lend a helping hand in the fight against breast cancer.
"We just want to do our part for the University," Scala said. "Fortunately, no one in my immediate family has had cancer, but I've had friends and relatives that have been stricken with this dreaded disease. It's important that we do our part to raise awareness."
Sunday's games will be a continuation of Adelphi University's support of breast cancer awareness, as the 2011 October Think Pink campaign marked the fifth annual month-long event in the University's storied history of community outreach. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
