Garden City, N.Y. – The #2 women's lacrosse team hosted the Purple Knights of St. Michael's College earlier this afternoon on Motamed Field for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup. 15 first half Panther goals buried the visiting Purple Knights as they rolled to their eleventh win, 20-2. In victory, Adelphi pushes their record to 11-1, 8-1 NE-10 while St. Michael's drops to 3-8, 1-7 NE-10.
Devan Crimi had seven points on four goals and three assists to lead the Panthers.
Erica Devito and
Alexa Froccaro chipped in to combine for 9points with Devito earning her share of four goals and an assist and Froccaro putting in two scores with two helpers.
Between Crimi and Devito, the duo pushed an early 4-0 Panther lead to make it a 10 goal game within 13:22. Froccaro added two of her three goals in the first 20 minutes, putting Adelphi up 15-1 before the break on a score with just three seconds remaining. She then capped the scoring frenzy with the 20
th Panther goal with 9:23 remaining on the clock.
Danielle Jaycox (2G, 1A),
Sara Sangiorgio (2G, 1A) and
Marissa Mills (3G) compiled a total of nine points on a combined seven goals and two assists. Jaycox and Mills scored back to back goals to kick start the game, and then struck again in the latter stages of the second half to follow up on two consecutive Sangiorgio scores.
Meg Brown and
Michelle Ceraso capped the show with a combine three goals, all of which came in the first half.
St. Michael's struggled offensively with Eliza Scoba and Shannon Murphy putting in the only two goals against cage minder
Jordann Dempsey. Despite allowing 20 goals, Sandy Palumbo played all 60 minutes between the pipes and made 15 saves, 12 of which came in the first half.
The Purple Knights picked up just seven ground balls, caused five turnovers, registered four shots, tallied nine draw controls and was successful on just 8-20 clears.
Dempsey saw 48:08 minutes in net and made just one save while allowing as many goals to earn her 11
th win. Backup goalie,
Jennifer Rojas saw 11:52 in goal and also allowed one goal and made one assist.
As a team, the Panthers were also statistically better, registering 48 shots, picking up 20 ground balls, taking 13 draw controls, successfully clearing 9-10 attempts, and forcing 27 turnovers.
Adelphi is back in action on Wednesday, April 18 when they host the Owls of Southern Connecticut State in a Northeast-10 matchup on Motamed field at 7:30 pm.
