Panthers hold tight to fifth spot in NE-10 standings despite setback

Chiwete Njokanma was the lone Panther to earn a singles and doubles win in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to Stonehill.

Easton, Mass. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team narrowly lost a Northeast-10 Conference match against Stonehill College, 5-4, at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts on Wednesday. The Panthers remain fifth in the NE-10 standings with a record of 7-11 overall and 6-4 in the conference, while Stonehill moves to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in league play.

The Panthers split singles play with the Skyhawks, who are ranked #8 in the region, but dropped two out of three doubles matches in defeat. Andreas Hammar and Chiwete Njokanma battled for three-set wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, while Bryan Kallenberg took home the win by a score of 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. The lone Adelphi doubles win of the day came at the hands of Njokanma and Ryan White, who prevailed 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.

Adelphi hosts Post University on Friday for a 3 p.m. non-conference match before closing out the regular season at American Int'l on Saturday at 2 p.m.
