Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team hosted the College of St. Rose in Northeast-10 action on Wednesday, April 11 on Janet L. Ficke Field. Devon Kelly and Laurin Watts both produced three hit shut outs, as Adelphi swept St. Rose, 4-0 and 1-0. With the wins the Brown and Gold improve to 23-14-1 overall and 14-6 in conference, while St. Rose falls to 10-23 and 6-14 in the NE-10.

Game One

After holding St. Rose scoreless in the top of the first, Adelphi used a Meghan Heiser routine ground out to score Emily Dorko from third, taking a 1-0 lead. The Panthers added second run in the bottom of the second, when Jeanine Leo single to right field, bringing Jaclyn Binstock around from third, 2-0.

Adelphi's final two runs of the game came courtesy of one swing of Meghan Heiser's bat. Victoria Wink led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk and was driven in one batter later, when Heiser unleashed a rope that disappeared over the outfield fence, 4-0 Adelphi.

That was more then enough run support for Kelly, who threw a complete game shut out, scattering three hits over seven innings and striking out four, while walking three. With the victory, Kelly raised her season record to 10-4.

The Panthers collected eight hits in the victory, including two from Heiser, who was 2-3 with a run scored and three RBI. Dorko, Amanda Krier, Katie Andrews, Binstock, Salerno and Leo added one hit each to the total.

Game Two

Adelphi and St. Rose combined for six hits in a text book pitchers dual. However, the Panthers managed to make one of their three hits count, as Amanda Krier would score and drive in the winning run when she led off the bottom of the second inning with an arcing drive down the left field line that vanished over the fence and into the trees, 1-0 Panthers.

Watts would do the rest, as she kept the Golden Knights off the base paths in the final three innings, not allowing a hit. In all Watts tossed a complete seven innings, collecting her seventh win of the season, striking out six and walking four.

Krier was the star of game two, going 1-3 with a home run, while both Binstock and Courtney Sullivan were 1-2.

Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, April 12 when they travel to Lakewood, New Jersey for a 3:00 pm doubleheader with Georgian Court.
