#1 Women's Lacrosse Bounces Bloomsburg, 20-6

The Panthers used 7-0 runs in each half to put the game out of reach.

The Adelphi University women's lacrosse team traveled to Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania on Monday, March 5 to take on PSAC member Bloomsburg University in the road opener.  The Panthers used 7-0 runs in each half to roll their way to a 20-6 victory. With the win Adelphi improves to 2-0 overall, while Bloomsburg starts the 2012 season, 0-1.

Devan Crimi and Sara Sangiorgio led the Panther offense with seven points each, Crimi on four goals and three assists and Sangiorgio on a career-high five goals and two assists. Marissa Mills and Alexa Froccaro had four points each (3G, 1A) as did Erica Devito (2G, 2A). 

Defensively, Froccaro with three caused turnovers and three ground balls, while Courtney Acker forced two turnovers and grabbed four ground balls. Jordann Dempsey was created with her second win of the season making seven saves in 56 minutes of action, while Jennifer Rojas made one save in relief.

The Panthers opened up quickly, getting two goals from Crimi less than 30 seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead with 28:42 remaining in the first half of action. Bloomsburg answered back, but Crimi, Alison Staudt and Froccaro each registered goals to push the Adelphi edge to 5-1 halfway through the first half.

The Huskies reeled off two of the next three goals, to claw their way back within three, 6-3 with 13:01 on the clock. However, the rest of the half was all Adelphi and all Sagiorgio, as the Panthers scored the final six goals of the game, four courtesy of Sangiorgio, to enter halftime with a nine point advantage, 12-3.

Adelphi and Bloomsburg traded goals to open the second half of action and the Panthers continued to lead, 13-4 with 25:16 left in the game. However, a Mills goal with 24:12 left, touched off a 7-0 run, that was capped by another Mills goal to put the game out of reach 20-4 with 9:26 left in the contest.

The Huskies would continue to battle, scoring two goals in the past 3:15 of the game to make the final count, 20-6.  Adelphi outshot the Huskies, 36-26, collected three more ground balls, 25-22 and were more efficient on the clear, 11-17, compared to 7-16 for the hosts.

The Brown and Gold return to action on Saturday, March 10 when they travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to take on Philadelphia University at noon.
