Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Worcester, MA - The Adelphi University softball team traveled to Worcester, Massachusetts on Tuesday, March 20 to open their Northeast-10 Conference schedule against Assumption College. The Panthers were held to just three hits in a 1-0 game one loss, but scored seven runs on eight hits to pound out a 7-4 win in game two. With the split Adelphi improves to 10-5-1 overall and 1-1 in the NE-10.

Game One

The Panthers and Grey Hounds played three and a half scoreless innings, before Assumption got a single to open the bottom half of the fourth and plating the only run of the game on a Panther miscue. Adelphi managed to get a runner to second in the fifth and had a base runner in the sixth, but could not put a run on the board, falling 1-0.

Heather Salerno, Jeanine Leo and Jaclyn Binstock were all 1-2 in the game, while Laurin Watts was saddled with the loss, throwing five innings of six hit, one run softball, with three strike outs. Katie Andrews tossed one inning of relief, giving up two hits, but she did not allow a run.

Game Two

Adelphi got on the board early in game two, hanging three runs on the Hounds in the second inning. The Panthers were credited with just one hit in the inning, an Amanda Krier single that started the inning, but scored Kayla Rieger on a wild pitch and Victoria Wink and Andrews on passed balls, 3-0.

Assumption cut the lead to 3-1, with a score in the third, but Adelphi answered right back with a run of their own in the fifth on another passed ball that plated Amy Ogden, 4-1. The Hounds tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with a three run double to left, making the final inning interesting.

After a scoreless sixth, the Brown and Gold blew the game open in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs, to take a 7-4 lead. After back-to-back singles and an out, Leo was intentionally walked, loading the bases for Krier, who smacked a single to left that brought two runs across the plate, 6-4. The seventh run came courtesy of a Binstock sacrifice fly that brought around Leo, 7-4.

That was plenty for Natalie Camarda to work with, putting down Assumption in order to secure the win. Camarda threw two innings of one hit, no run, no walk and one strike out softball to collect her first win of the season. Devon Kelly pitched the first five innings  of the game, allowing seven hits and three earned runs, while striking out one.

Emily Dorko had a strong day at the plate, going 3-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, while both Krier and Andrews were 2-4, Krier with two RBI and Andrews with a run scored.

Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, March 22 when they play host to cross town rival C.W. Post at 3:00 pm on Janet L. Ficke Field.
