Box Score 2 Bloomfield, NJ - The Adelphi University softball team returned from Florida and wasted no time continuing their schedule, traveling to Bloomfield, New Jersey on Saturday, March 17 to take on Bloomfield College. The Panthers came away with victories of 19-3 and 9-0, and showed off their power, with a combined seven home runs on the afternoon. With the sweep Adelphi improves to 9-4-1 overall, while Bloomfield falls to 10-5.
Game One
The Panthers opened game one with six runs in the first two innings of play, getting four in the first and two in the second on a
Katie Andrews two run blast. Adelphi was held scoreless in the third, while Bloomfield halved the lead with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning on a home run.
The Brown and Gold smashed three home runs in the fourth, a solo shot from
Jeanine Leo, another solo drive from
Katie Andrews and a two run jack from
Meghan Heiser to give the Panthers a 10-3 lead. The Panthers then used a nine run fifth, that included six straight walks, to put the game out of reach and collect a 19-3 victory.
Offensively, Heiser led the charge, going 2-3 with two runs and five RBI, while Andrews was 2-4 with four runs and three RBI and
Emily Dorko was 3-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Amy Ogden also had a good day, going 1-1 two RBI and a run scored.
Devon Kelly picked up her fourth win of the season, going the full five innings, striking out one and giving up just four hits in the win.
Game Two
Adelphi started game two in the same fashion as game one, with four runs in the first inning, this time courtesy of
Jaclyn Binstock's three run home run and a RBI single by Andrews. The Deacons would then silence the Panthers for the next two innings, until Heiser's solo shot in the fourth gave the Panthers a 5-0 lead.
Heiser would add four more runs for Adelphi in the fifth, stroking a grand slam that plated Binstock, Andrews and
Amanda Krier to push Adelphi's edge to 9-0. That was more then enough support for Andrews, who tossed a complete game shut out to pick up her third win of the season. In the win, Andrews struck out five and gave up just two hits.
Heiser was 2-3 with five RBI and two runs, while Binstock was also 2-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. In addition, Andrews was 2-3 with two runs and an RBI and Dorko stayed hot, going 3-4 with a run scored.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, March 20 when they travel to Worcester, Massachusetts for a 3:00 pm meeting with Northeast-10 foe Assumption College.
