St. Petersburg, Fla. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team traveled to Eckerd College for a non-conference contest and defeated the Tritons 80-63 at the McArthur Center on Sunday. The Panthers scored 17 unanswered points late in the first half to secure a steady lead, helping Adelphi improve to 7-3 overall. Eckerd drops to 4-4 overall with the loss.

The Panthers saw five players score in double figures, led by junior Sade Jackson who flirted with a triple-double. Jackson finished with 19 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds on perfect 8-8 shooting from the floor.  Jessica Kitrys posted 17 points and eight rebounds despite playing just 24 minutes due to foul trouble. Kelly Mannix and Lauren Nuss each tallied 14 points, which marked a career high for Nuss thanks to 4-6 shooting from 3-point range. Samantha Milhaven added 12 points, 11 of which came in the second half.

For the Tritons, Crystal Charles scored a game-high 20 points and Kristiana Stauere chipped in 14 points off the bench. Despite connecting on 18-22 free throws, Eckerd shot 37.7 percent from the floor (20-53) and could not match Adelphi's 53.8 percent mark (28-52).

The Tritons clung to a small lead early in the first half, but one of four Nuss 3-pointers in the frame pushed Adelphi ahead 20-19 with 8:27 remaining. The Panthers then erupted with a 17-0 run, during which Nuss and Jackson each posted six points to give Adelphi a 37-24 lead at the half.

The Panthers stayed strong in the second half and stretched their lead to 20 points (53-33) on a pair of Jenna Halaby free throws. The Tritons tried to chip away and crept within 14 points, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Mannix silenced hopes of an Eckerd rally.

Adelphi returns to Northeast-10 Conference play next Saturday when the Panthers head to American International College for a 1:30 p.m. contest.
