Old Westbury, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team closed out the fall season with a 5-4 setback at New York Institute of Technology on Sunday, finish with a 2-1 record overall and a 1-0 mark in Northeast-10 Conference play.
The Bears put the Panthers against the wall with a sweep of all three doubles matches. Despite taking four of six bouts in singles play, Adelphi could not complete the comeback and played to its second 5-4 decision in as many days.
Chiwete Njokanma secured the most decisive win of the day, prevailing 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. The rest of the singles victories were tightly contested, particularly
Bryan Kallenberg's three set (4-6, 6-2, 6-4) win at the third slot.
Alan Chocron battled to a 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) win at No. 2 singles, and
Sander Brenner rounded out the winners by a 6-4, 6-4 score in the sixth position.
