Softball Leaps Past LeMoyne, 2-0 and 2-1

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team played host to the LeMoyne College Dolphins on Monday, April 25 in a Northeast-10 doubleheader. The Panthers shut down LeMoyne in game one to the tune of a 2-0 victory and ended game two with a walk-off single, 2-1. With the sweep Adelphi evens their overall record at 20-20 and improve to 14-8 in the NE-10.

Game One
Adelphi scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth when Maria Canino drove home Jeanine Leo after a Dolphin outfielder bobbled the ball. Leo reached earlier in the inning on a walk. Shay Craig bunted home Adelphi's second run in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Emily Dorko to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

That was plenty of support for Leighann Bell, who threw seven scoreless innings, striking out four and holding LeMoyne to just two hits in her 10th win of the season. Canino was 2-3 on the day, while Dorko was 1-3 with a run scored and both Craig and Heather Salerno were 1-2.

Game Two
Adelphi got on the board first again in game two when Deandra Leo turned an Amanda Krier walk into a run with a single to center, 1-0. The Dolphins answered back immediately, getting a two out home run to even the count at one all.

From there the pitchers duel was on, as both hurlers kept he game scoreless and pushed the contest into extra innings. Adelphi took advantage of back-to-back bunts and a walk to load the bases in the bottom of the eighth. With no outs Krier fouled out to the catcher, but Canino connected, bringing home the winning run on a single, 2-1.

Katie Andrews picked up her eighth win of the season after throwing eight sterling innings, striking out 11 and giving up just five hits. Dorko and Amy Ogden both had strong days at the plate, going 2-3.

Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, April 26 when they play host to Bloomfield at 3:00 pm in Garden City.
