Swimming Glides Past William Paterson

The men topped William Paterson, 56-39, while the women secured a 53-42 win.

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University swim team played host to William Paterson University on Saturday, December 10 in the Center for Recreation and Sports. The Panthers won a combined 18 events as both the men and women secured victories. The men topped William Paterson, 56-39, while the women swam away with a 53-42 decision.

Charlotte Davies, Ana Galesic and Brittany Stanford led the Panther charge, winning two events each. Davies captured the distance double, winning both the 1,000 yard freestyle (11:54.53) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:49.52), while Galesic countered with the sprint split, touching first in the 50 yard freestyle (26.31) and the 100 yard freestyle (57.46).  Stanford showed her versatility with victories in the 200 yard individual medley (2:22.83) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:13.10).

Samantha Spacone and Gabrielle Terzano also picked up individual wins for Adelphi, Spacone in the 200 yard freestyle (2:08.76) and Terzano in the 100 yard backstroke (1:05.38). Rachel Garry was teamed with Terzano, Stanford and Galesic in the 200 yard individual medley, as Adelphi out touched William Paterson.

Four different men won two events, led by Kyle Jones, who won the longest event of the day, the 1,000 yard freestyle (10:50.62) and came back later in the meet to touch first in the 100 yard butterfly (56.05). Corey McKee proved his sprint event prowess, taking first in the 50 yard freestyle (22.99) and the 100 yard freestyle (50.09), while Zachary Terzano picked up wins in the 100 yard backstroke (55.76) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:02.55).

Michael Mayer rounded out Adelphi's dual event winners, taking home titles in the 200 yard individual medley (2:01.73) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:09.89). Mayer, Terzano and Mckee added Steven Gromling to the mix in the 200 yard medley relay and came out on top with a time of 1:38.92).

The Panthers return to action in the new year, when they host Pace University on January 12 at 6:30 pm in the Center for Recreation and Sports.
