Box Score

The Adelphi University volleyball team played host to sixth seeded Pace University in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Tournament on Tuesday, November 8 in the Center for Recreation and Sports. The #3 Panthers cruised past the Setters, 25-15, 25-17 and 25-17 to secure a straight set win, 3-0 and advance to the NE-10 semifinals. With the victory Adelphi improves to 20-7 overall, the programs fifth straight 20 win season, while Pace falls to 20-10.

Chelsea Overholt led the offense with 11 kills, while Samantha Rico added nine and Kaitlyn DeStefano and Emily Dorko chipped in eight each. Defensively, Bianca Hernandez set the pace with 24 digs and Overholt added 11, while Katie Bryson had a game-high 36 assists. Adelphi also had nine blocks on the night, with DeStefano registering seven block assists and Rico adding five.

All three games followed a similar pattern, the score would seesaw back and forth in the early going and then Adelphi would use a late run to pull away. The Panthers used a 7-1 run in the first game to turn a six all tie into a 13-7 lead, which became a 25-15 that was capped off by a Bryson service ace.

Game two was tied at eight apiece when a back-to-back kills by DeStefano sparked Adelphi to a 13-3 run, giving the Panthers a comfortable 21-11 lead and a 25-17 game two win. The third game was tighter, as the Brown and Gold led by only four, 19-15, late in the game, but the Panthers took advantage of Pace miscues to end the game on a 6-2 that culminated with a kill from Dorko, 25-17.

Adelphi will take their seven game win streak on the road, when they travel to Easton, Massachusetts on Friday, November 11 to face host and #2 Stonehill College in the semifinals of the NE-10 Tournament.
