Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team's shooting woes led to a 57-43 setback at the hands of the College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday at the Center for Recreation and Sport. The Panthers shot just 31 percent from the field and despite rallying to within eight points with 2:53 to play, they could not catch the Golden Knights in the final minutes. Adelphi drops to 2-4 and 1-3 in NE-10 play with the loss, while Saint Rose climbs to 5-1 and 3-1 in the conference.
In her first start of the season, Adelphi senior

The Panthers rallied back and cut the deficit to one point on a layup by Tancredi at the 8:48 mark, but Rath answered back seconds later with a jumper that shifted the momentum back in the Golden Knights' favor. A layup by Trapp capped a 12-0 run by Saint Rose that stretched the lead to 30-16 with two minutes left in the half, and a free throw by Alison McGrath gave the Golden Knights a 31-18 lead heading into halftime.
The visitors held a steady lead into the heart of the second half, but a
Samantha Perez nailed a stepback fadeaway as she cut through the lane to slice the Saint Rose lead to nine points with 4:33 to play. Two minutes later, Tancredi swished two free throws to bring Adelphi within eight, but the Golden Knights opened the game back up hitting 8-of-8 free throws in the final two minutes to seal the deal.
