Volleyball Leaps Past Le Moyne and Queens

The Panthers dispatched Le Moyne, 3-1 and Queens, 3-0.

Emily Dorko totaled 22 kills on the day.
Adelphi vs. Le Moyne/Adelphi vs. Queens

The Adelphi University volleyball team played host to Le Moyne College and Queens College on Saturday, October 8 in a tri-match that featured new New York state rival Le Moyne and old Eastcoast Conference foe Queens. The Brown and Gold collected two wins, slipping past the Dolphins, 3-1 and blanking the Knights, 3-0. WIth the sweep Adelphi improves to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in Northeast-10 play.

Colleen Raga and Patawe Simms led the attack for Adelphi with 11 and 10 kills respectively, while Emily Dorko chipped in nine and Kaitlyn DeStefano added eight. Katie Bryson managed 41 set assists and Bianca Hernandez and Dorko each collected double digit digs with 18 and 13.

Adelphi's offense was the story in the win, posting more kills then the Dolphins in three of the four games, including a 12-6 advantage in a 25-16 game one win. Le Moyne posting hitting percentage of .296 and .500 in games two and three as Adelphi captured game two, 26-24 and Le Moyne took game three, 25-14. The fourth game was nip and tuck and saw the Dolphins pull within one late, 22-21. However, a Haley Blunt kill gave Adelphi the service and eventually the game, 25-21.

Adelphi vs. Queens
Simms was Adelphi's hammer again against Queens, totaling a game high 14 kills, while Dorko added 13 and Samantha Rico and DeStefano had seven each. Bryson had a game high 26 assists, while Erika Loomer chipped in 14 and Bree Popham had 24 digs, with Hernandez collecting 11.

This match was all Adelphi, as the Panthers posted hitting percentage of .275, .271 and .393 with kill totals of 17, 18 and 12. Queens countered with kill totals o eight, ten and six and fell in three straight games, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-13.

Adelphi will return to action on Wednesday, October 12 when they play host to Bridgeport in a non-conference contest at 7:00 pm in the Center for Recreation and Sports.
