Garden City, N.Y. -
Earlier tonight, the volleyball team made quick work of the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University in a Northeast-10 conference contest. Behind the strength of 12 kills from Chelsea Overholt and 10 from Kaitlyn DeStefano, the Panthers got the job done in straight sets, 25-10, 25-20 and 25-21. With the win, Adelphi advances to 15-7, 8-3 NE-10 while the Ravens slip to 11-12, 5-7 NE-10.

At 8-4 in the first game in favor of Adelphi, a Patawe Simms kill sparked a 7-0 run to give her team a 13-4 advantage midway through. Holding the Ravens to just 10 points, Samantha Rico hammered home a kill from Katie Bryson to go up 1-0 in the match.

In the second game, Franklin Pierce took the first point, but it would be the only lead they would hold. They would pull within two at the 12-10 mark, but Adelphi's hitting proved too much to handle as the Panthers slammed down 17 kills in the game to power away down the strech and take the second game, 25-20.

In what would prove to be the final game, Jocelyn Smith got the Ravens going with a kill early on, giving her team momentum to take a rare lead that eventually grew to as much as six. Eight straight points, four courtesy of DeStefano pushed the Panthers ahead at 12-10. From there, it was no easy road home as the two teams knotted the score eight more times before Adelphi put the nail in the coffin on an Erika Loomer service ace.

Overholt led all players with 12 kiills while DeStefano was close behind with 10 and Simms chipped in with seven of her own. Bryson had a game high 28 kills while Bianca Hernandez did her part with eigh digs and five aces.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow at noon when they host the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University in a NE-10 matchup.
