Garden City, N.Y. –
Earlier this afternoon, the women's soccer team hosted the Setters of Pace University in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Both teams netted one goal in the first half, but could not break the deadlock at the end of regulation, forcing overtime. In the final seconds of extra time, Pace managed to put the game away, picking up the golden goal to come away with the win. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 7-6, 6-6 NE-10 while the Setters move to 7-7-1, 6-6-1 NE-10.

The Setters got to work early, making a statement just before the seven minute mark of the opening half. Jillian Ferro picked up a loose ball and sent a pass into Panther territory where a waiting Amanda Mundorf took off down the middle and nailed the top left shelf from 20 yards out, giving the Setters an early 1-0 advantage.

With less than two minutes in the half, Kim Volinski took matters into her own hands and leveled the playing field as she hit her mark on the top right corner to earn her first goal of the season and send her team into halftime even with the Setters.

In the second half, the Panther's Aimee Goldstein had an opportunity to tack on the go ahead goal when she set up from 30 yards out and fired a rocket toward the top left corner of the net, but Pace keeper Courtany Hagen just got a piece of it and deflected it away.

Alison Gronenthal had her chance a few minutes later when she found herself dribbling down the right side but shanked a shot that went wide left, leaving the game up for grabs still. Not to be outdone, Pace's Stephanie Savino had two good looks at the net, but fortunate for the Panthers, the attempts went high.

At the end of regulation, the score remained deadlocked one a piece, sending the game into overtime. Early on, Volinski looked to put an end to the game when she broke two defenders and got deep into Setter territory, but her shot sailed just wide right of the post. Following her teammate's lead, Masiello soon found herself with an opportunity to secure the win, but could not get enough behind the ball as Hagen came up with the save.

Just as the game appeared it would need another 10 minutes to settle the score, Taylor Walden sent in a corner where Ferro picked up the loose ball and headed it in for the golden goal.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, October 22 when they travel to Manchester, New Hampshire to take on the Hawks of Saint Anselm in a NE-10 contest. First kick is scheduled for a 1pm start.
