College Park, MD – Earlier tonight, the men's soccer team took on the #3 Terapins of the University of Maryland. After holding the Terps scoreless for 72 minutes, the Panthers let up two back-to-back goals and could not dig themselves out of the hole. With the loss, Adelphi slips to 4-6-1 while Maryland advances to 12-1-1.

In the 24th minute, a UMD kick set up a shot for Casey Townsend who aimed for the top shelf but was denied by freshman keeper, Christopher Herrera as he made a fantastic diving save to keep the Terapins scoreless.

In the 37th minute, the Panthers had an opportunity on a free kick from the left side just five yards outside of the box. Mauricio Mora's attempt curved around the UMD wall but sailed just high of the net.

With two minutes remaining in the half, Jake Pace found himself with a clear shot from just outside the box and fired a rocket over Herrara, but fortunate for the Panthers, hit the crossbar.

At the end of the half, Adelphi kept the Terps scoreless, only the third time this season they have been held scoreless after 45 minutes. The Panthers outshot UMD 4-3. This was only the second time all season Maryland has been outshot in the first half (St. John's had a 7-3 shot advantage on 8/26).

The Panthers back line consisting of Mora, Dan Larenius, Travis Tennie and Steven Rivera held solid until UMD opened the flood gates in the 73rd minute when a cross from Taylor Kemp set up a header by Kaoru Forbess, but an incredibly athletic save by Herrera denied the attempt. However, in a cloud of players from both ends, he attempted to bat away the rebound but sent it right to Pace who put it in the net for the first goal of the game.

A minute later, right off the bat, the Terapin's Kaoru Forbess gained possession of the ball and pushed it up field, sending a pass in to Pace who sent a low shot catching the bottom right side of the net, furthering their lead, 2-0 which is how the game would be concluded.

Herrera made four saves in the loss while his counterpart, Keith Cardona made one.

The Panthers will return to action on Saturday, October 15 during Family Weekend when they host Atlantic Soccer Conference rival Howard University at 3 p.m.
