Game One/Game Two

The Adelphi University baseball team traveled to take on #24 Franklin Pierce University this afternoon in a Northeast-10 doubleheader. The Ravens took both games, 10-2 and 9-1. Franklin Pierce improves to 33-12-1 and 19-6-1 in the NE-10, while Adelphi falls to 29-17 and 15-11.
Game One
For the Panthers, junior Richard McCarren went 3-for-4 with a home run, while sophomore Justin Farnum finished 1-for-3. Junior Keith Couch took the loss, giving up 10 hits and seven earned runs, while striking out two.
McCarren would tie the score at 1-1 when he led off the top of the fourth with a solo shot to right field.
Franklin Pierce blew the game wide open in the bottom of the fourth inning with six runs, giving them a 7-1 lead. Four of the six runs came off the bat of Dan Kemp who hit a grand slam over the left field fence.
The Ravens would add a run in the fifth, followed by a run in the seventh and eighth as well. Mike Munoz tripled in Pat Raftery for the Ravens' 10th run.
Adelphi scored their second run in the top of the ninth when sophomore Craig Matteo sent an RBI single up the middle.
For the Ravens, Kemp went 2-for-4 with four RBI and a grand slam, while Nick LaCroix finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Jose Macias got the win, giving up one earned in eight innings, and striking out 10.
Game Two
For the Panthers, junior Matt Barle went 1-for-3 with a run scored, while sophomore Robert Eysel drove in the only Panther run. Junior Robert Nixon took the loss, giving up 12 hits and three earned in 4.1 innings of work, while striking out four.
With a 1-0 lead headed into the bottom of the third, Franklin Pierce tacked on three more runs. The first run came on a lead-off home run to center field from Munoz.
Adelphi would get on the board, scoring their only run of the game, when Eysel drove in Barle on a fielder's choice.
The Ravens then took a 6-1 advantage into the bottom of the eighth, and once again scored three more times. The inning was highlighted with a LaCroix two-run home run down the left field line.
For the Ravens, LaCroix finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs, while Munoz went 3-for-4 with a home run. Maloney earned the win, giving up three hits and no runs over seven innings, and striking out nine.
The Panthers now await their seed for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament which begins on Thursday, May 6.
