Game One/Game Two

The #19 Adelphi University baseball team hosted the Golden Knights of the College of St. Rose this afternoon in a doubleheader. Adelphi took game one, 5-2, while posting a shut out in the second game, 3-0. The Panthers improve to 23-7 and 9-3 in the Northeast-10, while St. Rose falls to 9-23 and 4-11 in the conference.
Game One
For the Panthers, junior Trevor Thorstensen went 3-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored, a stolen base, and a home run while sophomore T.J. Humrich went 3-for-4. Sophomore Craig Matteo and senior Chris Weidlein each collected two hits as well. Senior Mike Scudero earned the win, throwing all nine innings, giving up two runs and striking out nine.
The Golden Knights scored their only two runs of the game in the top of the second inning. The two runs came off the bat of Paul Partridge, who connected on a two-run home run. Adelphi answered back in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own. Weidlein would plate the first run on a Golden Knights throwing error, followed an RBI single to left field from Matteo.
The Panthers would throw up another two-spot in the fourth inning. Senior Anthony Anzalone hit a two-run homer to right field for his first of the season. In the bottom of the eighth, Thorstensen would lead off the inning with an inside the park home run for the Panthers' final run.
For the Golden Knights, Partridge went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a run scored, and a home run, while Derek Marshall went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Richard Egloff took the loss, throwing six innings, giving up 11 hits and striking out one.
Game Two
For the Panthers, senior Justin Ciamillo went 1-for-2 with two RBI, a run scored, and home run, while Weidlein went 1-for-3 and drove in the first Panther run. Sophomore Chris Pabisch got the win, throwing five innings, giving up no runs and striking out one. Senior Jason Intelisano picked up the save, throwing a scoreless seventh inning with two strike outs.
Adelphi scored their first run in the bottom half of the third when Weidlein bounced a single up the middle, sending home Anzalone in the process. Ciamillo's two-run shot to left field in the fifth inning gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead.
For the Golden Knights, Nick Alexandrovich went 2-for-2, while Ryan Burke finished 1-for-2. Daniel Cavazzini suffered the loss, giving up one run and striking out five in four innings of work.
The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, April 13 when they travel to Worcester, Massachusetts to take on Assumption College at 3:30 p.m.
