Baseball Takes Game One From No. 15 Franklin Pierce, 2-0; Falls In Second, 9-1

Garden City, N.Y. -

The Adelphi University baseball team took on #15-ranked Franklin Pierce University in a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon on William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. The Panthers took game one, 2-0, but fell to the Ravens in game two, 9-1.

Game 1

For the Panthers, senior Justin Ciamillo went 3-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base, while classmate Chris Weidlein was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI double. Senior Mike Scudero struk out six over four innings of work for the win, while junior Keith Couch pitched the final three for the save.

With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Ciamillo singled, and would then be driven in on Weidlein's double to score the first run. Weidlein would then come around to score the second run, after an error by Franklin Pierce's Phil Hendricks. Scudero and Couch would shut down the Raven's offense for the rest of the game, giving up five hits combined and walking just one.

For the Ravens, Derek Ingui went 3-for-3, while Hendricks and Mike Munoz each collected a hit. Heath Wasylow suffered the loss, throwing six innnigs, giving up two runs and striking out three.

Game 2

For Adelphi, Ciamillo capped off a solid afternoon by going 2-for-3 with a stolen base, while freshman Nick Pomo-Roman also went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Sophomore T.J. Humrich drove in the lone Panther run.

Franklin Pierce scored nine of their three runs in the third inning. Tim Quinn drew a four-pitch bases loaded walk for the first Raven run. Nick LaCroix would then deliver the next two runs with a single up the middle. Franklin Pierce would add two more runs in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run error by the Panthers to take a 5-0 lead headed into the bottom half of the fourth.

Adelphi would get on the board in the fourth, when Humrich drove in Pomo-Roman with two outs. The Ravens had one more big inning left as they would tack on three more runs in the top of the fifth. After a single and a walk, Mike Dowd would drive in two runs with a base hit, which was then followed up by Mike Augustine scoring on a Panther error for the third run. Augustine would add an RBI single in the sixth for Franklin Pierce's ninth and final run.

For Franklin Pierce, Dowd went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two driven in, while LaCroix also went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Augustine collected three hits to go along with an RBI and run scored. Sean Keeler pitched four and two thirds, striking out three and giving up one run for the win.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, March 9 when they play host to the Knights of Queens College in a non-conference contest starting at 3:00 p.m.
